you can only inject with ipw2200 when you're already connected to an AP, your card is on the same channel as the (going to be attacked) AP, injecting in managed mode, with the rtap interface activated for sniffing

So basically you have to have 2 APs. One you have acces to and another you want to hack.

Have fun

i dont know if you can help me out but any insight into what i might be doing wrong would be great..

Ive only use linux a few times, mostly ubuntu on my friends laptop so im not really fluent with the way it works yet,

Basically i downloaded beta3 version of backtrack of the site you linked in the wep cracking guide and i get a reoccurring problem which is when i boot it up from disk, it crashes.. i thought it might be a corrupt version.. but after playing around i realized it was when i had my pcmcia wifi card plugged in.. a 'Dell Truemobile 1150'. If i remove the card, it boots up fine however then i cant do anything wifi related as when its plugged back in, nothing network related actually works.

i tried my friends 'lucient orinoco' wifi card and the same thing happened.. we swapped laptops and it even happened on his.

I downloaded v2 last night and that seems to boot up, however it doesnt have the correct drivers/patches for my card..

Any idea's on v3?

Thanks alot..

If its limited or does not work i reccomend you get a :

netgear WG111v2

I used them to test it on my router

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me with a little problem.  After booting up backtrack i was never prompted to log into linux.  I was just brought right to the start up screen.  I did try logging out and logging in, and i did get the login prompt, and i used "root" as the username and "toor" as the password.  It then just does the exact same thing as before.  I don't get the "pop up prompt window" to type in "startx", and when I do type that in using the shell, i just get an error message:

xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.7019

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.

Can you please help me with this problem?  Thanks
