better yet type this in a terminal


airmon-ng start eth0 (if thats your network)

And Leave that tab there while you are using airodump,aircrack ect.. that will put your adapter/card in Monitor Mode

I am having a problem booting Backtrack its giving me an error saying: CPU is in V86-mode I need pure 386/486 real mode or a VCPI server to boot linix, can anyone please help me with this?

Its a problem with your Monitor screen ....Try it with a diffrent monitor and it should boot up perfectly

i try this and i get a screen with
interface        chipset       driver
wifi0             atheros        madwifi-ng
ath0             atheros        madwifi-ng vap (parent;wifi0)
ath1            atheros         madwifi-ng  vap (parent:wifi0)


i try using kismet. but then i select network adapter and it for 2 seconds and disappear... the laptops i try it on are hp/compag nc6320 and a satellite m35x-s161... can i use one of these to do the hack. i am using backtrack 3... or i need backtract 2...

i am downloading it right now... on the toshiba i have a atheros AR5212/AR5213 MULTIPROTOCOL  mac /baseband processor.. will it work kismet or i need to buy a special card..great site... thanks for your quick respond.

Im sure it will connect but i dont think it will allow you to go into kernel mode but i suggest you buy netgear WG111v2

(thats what i use to test my router) it works Great Good Luck
